In this first week of the festive series, Pastor Josh Cooke unpacks the generous heart of God based on the well-known verse, John 3:16. He challenges the idea that generosity is a zero-sum game, explaining that when God’s people are generous, it actually unlocks blessing and favour.
Pastor Josh lays a foundation for generosity, reminding us that everything we have comes from God. He discusses the tithe (returning 10% of income to the local church) as God’s strategy to keep us free from the “money problem”. He encourages everyone to prepare for Giving Sunday by bringing their faith or a financial offering that is above the tithe as an act of worship. Finally, he looks at the powerful story of the poor widow’s offering to show that Jesus values a sacrificial offering that is rooted in gratitude and trust.
